Speaker: Dr. Edoardo Tinto, PhD candidate, UNIPD
Today, the Compute Continuum infrastructure crosses the borders of Cloud
and Edge computing, so that software components run on multiple
heterogeneous nodes (being them powerful servers, or power-constrained
edge devices).
This happens regardless of the actual node architecture and operating
system, thanks to the presence of specialized and lightweight runtimes
deployed on the single nodes.
In my research, two existing technologies, WebAssembly (Wasm) and Rust,
play a crucial role in the construction of such infrastructure, because
they enable dynamic creation and migration of software components in
real-time to meet key performance and power guarantees.
In this presentation, I am going to illustrate the envisioned model for
the Compute Continuum, the main challenges in its construction, and the
scenarios emerging from it.
