Internship for the Master's Degree Programme in Mathematics

Contenuto

The curricular internship is a period that the student spends at a public or private school, university, public or private research institutions, companies or public bodies, to carry out activities of a predominantly experimental and professional nature. The Master's Degree in Mathematics provides for an optional curricular internship of 3 CFU , equal to 75 total hours of work. Internships that involve a greater commitment in terms of time are normally authorized, but any additional hours will be counted in the student's career as supernumerary CFU.

The internship is carried out under the guidance of a scientific tutor , affiliated with the Council of the Master's Degree Course in Mathematics and of a company tutor designated by the school, institution or company where the internship is carried out.

  • Students of the Teaching Curriculum are strongly encouraged to undertake an internship at the School to gain teaching experience;
  • the internship in a company involves the student in carrying out a design and development activity on a specific company problem proposed, normally, by the company or institution where the internship is carried out.

An internal internship is also foreseen, which only requires the identification of a scientific tutor, and which involves the execution of a project or research activity.

Periodic meetings have been organized between students of the FIM Department Degree Courses and Companies with the aim of promoting mutual knowledge. More information on these events can be found on the page " Mathematics in Companies " of the outreach section.

The internship is a training activity distinct from the final exam, which instead consists of the dissertation that the student presents and discusses in front of a Commission during the Degree session. However, the subject of the dissertation can be closely linked to the activity carried out during the internship period.
