The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, to ensure equal opportunities and equal rights for students with special needs, has activated a specific service for welcoming students with disabilities and DSA .
The Department of Physical, Computer and Mathematical Sciences has identified two referents for students with disabilities and DSA in order to facilitate access to academic activities, promote better integration and participation in university life and ensure the usability of all the premises thanks to the use of some technical, IT and teaching aids.
The representatives, in close collaboration with the University disability service, meet the students when requested:
- upon entry, to provide information on study courses and understand the needs of each individual;
- in itinere, to help them during their studies and provide them with the technical and didactic aids made available by the University to facilitate attendance and passing exams;
The referents may inform individual teachers about the possibility of using teaching tools and methods and of attending lessons, as well as the definition of exam tests that are functional to the different abilities. In agreement with the University Reception Service, the referents also collaborate in the possible identification of a tutor who can provide ongoing support during the lessons, in the study phase and in preparing for exams, compatibly with the available resources.
The request for compensatory measures during the exam must be communicated directly to the teachers at least 15 days before the exam date and must be agreed with the teachers themselves in relation to the specifics of the subject matter. The referents intervene if mediation is necessary.
