The Department of Physics, Informatics and Mathematics of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia is at the service of the cultural, scientific and social development of the territory and the nation through the advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge, the training of students and relationships with civil society and the territory in the field of physical, computer and mathematical sciences.

In its research activity, the Department can count on a dense network of international relations. It also collaborates with many foreign universities in the various actions promoted by the European Union (such as LLP and Erasmus). Students have the opportunity to attend courses at universities in European and non-European countries, and to carry out internships at foreign companies and institutions. The presence of foreign students is growing.

All educational activities take place at the FIM headquarters in Via Campi. The Department is equipped with numerous classrooms, three computer laboratories with 120 workstations, spaces equipped for study activities in small groups. All classrooms are equipped with computers and streaming recording devices and cutting-edge audio-video equipment, which also encourages the inclusion of disabled and dyslexic students. The Department spaces are set up for wi-fi connections.
The Department offers various information and counseling services, including individual ones, dedicated to Italian and foreign students.
